ImpactScope today announces that it has acquired a significant minority stake in Planet League. Founded by James Atkins, former Chairman of Vertis Environmental Finance, and author of Climate Change for Football Fans, Planet League is a leading global technology brand at the intersection of fan engagement and climate action. Since 2021, through Planet League’s digital platform and sustainability activations, teams from the English Premier League, NFL, NBA and NHL have delivered high-impact campaigns to encourage sports fans to become agents for social impact in their communities.
Planet League’s online tournaments see fans of different cubs compete against each other to complete sustainable activities and score goals. Planet League’s 2024 Green Action League, in partnership with Ball Corporation and Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, with Arsenal FC, Los Angeles Rams, Denver Nuggets, and Colorado Avalanche, was the “largest fan-driven campaign on sustainability ever seen in sports”.
Sean Murphy, CEO of ImpactScope, commented: “At ImpactScope we’re all about using emerging technologies to help organisations measure, verify and monetise impact outcomes at scale. We have been working on and off with Planet League since 2022. We’re delighted to become both a shareholder and exclusive technology partner.”
James Atkins, Founder of Planet League, remarked “To date Planet League has worked with every Premier League club in England, and we’ve helped them facilitate over 250,000 verified impact outcomes. We believe that with ImpactScope’s blockchain solutions, during next year’s World Cup in the USA, Planet League will reach 200 million global football fans. ImpactScope is the partner we need to take Planet League to the next level.”
