ImpactScope’s misinformation detection technology backed by UNICEF Venture Fund

Following a rigorous selection process, where only 7 projects were selected from more than 900 submissions, Kairos has been chosen by the UNICEF Venture Fund to implement a social media monitoring tool that identifies harmful misinformation related to reproductive health and wellbeing. Through this joint initiative, ImpactScope will co-develop and deploy the tool together with Kairos, a health-focused organisation founded by experts in health training engineering and health protection in Burkina Faso.

YouthShield (called Wobsongo in the local language) is a social media monitoring tool designed to detect misinformation related to gender rights and sexual and reproductive health in Burkina Faso. The system analyses content from social media influencers to flag harmful or misleading narratives, empowering stakeholders to better protect young girls and uphold fundamental human rights. It identifies misinformation and generates actionable reports for NGOs, policymakers, and educators.

YouthShield is inspired by the Greenwashing Identifier (GWI), developed by ImpactScope and primarily used by financial regulators to rapidly identify potential instances of greenwashing in public communications and reporting. GWI detects contradictions and inconsistencies as red flags, as well as potential non-compliance with existing regulatory frameworks (such as sustainability requirements under IFRS standards).

In a similar way, YouthShield analyses content produced by social media influencers on sexual and reproductive health and cross-checks it against evidence-based recommendations issued by the World Health Organization and national health authorities, including the Ministry of Health. YouthShield represents the latest product developed by ImpactScope, leveraging emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and Web3 to build tools that strengthen trust, transparency, and accountability in impact-driven initiatives.
